General Information

Admissions

Admission requirements for the distance learning program (Master of Arts in Christian Ministry and Master of Theological Studies) are the same as on campus programs.  (Fulfilled an accredited undergraduate degree, filling out an application, reference forms, essay, official transcripts, personal interview and taking the GRE).  In addition, the distance learning student must take one distance learning course, and one short term course to complete the admissions process.  This will demonstrate the student’s ability to complete both types of classes.

Financial Aid

Requirements are substantially the same as for on campus students.  All full-time students are eligible for financial aid.  Full-time for distance learning is considered successful completion of 12 credits during a semester and any short term courses that fall in that semester schedule.  These credits can be earned through a combination of on-campus short terms, distance learning courses, internships in the local church during the second and third year, and thesis.  Upper level students may also be eligible to take a few independent study courses.

Distance learning students must be aware of the time requirements to complete 12 graduate credits in a semester time frame.  Students with full-time jobs, church commitments, and family responsibilities may find it difficult to handle the work load in most cases.  If you think you would like to complete your degree as a full-time student, please talk to your advisor at UGST. (The Distance Learning Director is your advisor)

Residency Requirements

UGST policy and the Association of Theological Schools currently require that at least one-half of a degree program be taken on campus.  To help our distance learning students meet this requirement, we will hold four short terms on campus, in January, March, June and October of each calendar year.  In some cases, students may take two or three short term classes right after each other.

Special Note

All distance learning students will pay a technology fee of $35.00 per 3 credit on-line class in addition to the tuition costs.  Distance learning students are exempt from the general student fee except when they are taking on campus classes during the short terms.

All Short Term students pay a $10 activity fee.

Tuition and fees are due on the same date that the student registers for the class.
